NAIRA INCREASES TO 440 AS DOLLAR INFLOW DROPS
The naira was sold at the parallel market for 440 per dollar on Sunday, as the lingering foreign exchange scarcity increased to a new level.
The local currency, which closed at 436/dollar on Thursday, eased to 435 in the early hours of Friday. It closed at 439/dollar.
The naira had closed at 428 to the greenback on Wednesday, down from 424 on Tuesday, as lingering foreign exchange shortage weighed on the economy.
The latest declines in the naira value started on Wednesday, a day after the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Monetary Policy Committee retained the benchmark lending rate at 14 per cent.
The MPC had after its two-day bi-monthly meeting left the Monetary Policy Rate unchanged, rebuffing calls for rates cut by analysts, stakeholders and some government officials, including the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun.
However, economic and currency analysts have said the decline in the value of the local currency against the dollar has nothing to do with the MPC decision.
At the interbank market, the naira closed at 307.79 on Friday. It closed at 307.25, 311 and 312 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday respectively, according to data posted on the FMDQ OTC platform.
“There is shortage of dollar supply. Diaspora remittances have dropped. This is why you can see the rate dropping at the parallel market,” an economic analyst and Chief Executive Officer, Cowry Asset Management Limited, Mr. Johnson Chukwu, said.
The development came amid depleting external reserves, which stood at $24.8bn last Monday.
The latest data posted on the CBN website showed that the foreign exchange reserves were down by 3.4 per cent from a month ago to its lowest level in more than 11 years, as the apex bank sells the greenback at the interbank market to support the naira.
Economic and currency analysts had said there had been no significant policy response to the fall in the reserves, further fuelling the concerns.
The Association of Bureau De Change Operators of Nigeria had said the naira would recover by Monday due to the introduction of Travelex, a licensed forex dealer.
Travelex, an international money transfer organisation, would begin to distribute forex to the BDC operators on Monday (today).
The President, ABCON, Alhaji Aminu Gwadabe, said the forex distribution would be efficient and uniform across ABCON members, unlike what was obtainable in the past.
According to him, Travelex has the technology to sell forex to about 1,000 BDCs in a couple of hours, which is a major advantage.

ANGRY CONTE VOWS TO FIRE TWO CHELSEA STARS
Antonio Conte stated that the two culprits will be purnished
Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is reportedly going to sell Gary Cahill and Branislav Ivanovic.
A masterful first half performance by Arsenal saw the Gunners defeat Chelsea 3 – 0 at the Emirates stadium on Saturday, September 24.
A first league win over the Blues since October 2011 moves Arsene Wenger’s team up to third in the table behind Manchester City and Tottenham.
The Daily Mail (UK) reports that Gary Cahill and Branislav Ivanovic were responsible for the defeat and Conte hopes to replace them.
The source stated that despite the signing of David Luiz and Marcos Alonso last transfer window, Conte wants to sign two centre-backs and a full-back in January 2017.
The Italian could sign Michael Keane from Burnley and Middlesbrough’s Ben Gibson.
CORPS MEMBER SLUMPS, DIES AFTER PARTY WITH COLLEAGUES
A member of the National Youth Service Corps, Mr. Ogundare Opeyemi, has slumped and died in the Nembe area of Bayelsa State.
Opeyemi, it was learnt, died in the area where he was posted for his primary assignment.
It was also learnt that the deceased corps member slumped a day after he had a party with his colleagues in the area.
“A day after the party, he complained of a health-related issue and before we knew what was happening he slumped and died,” a source, who craved anonymity, said.
It was gathered that Opeyemi’s death caused panic among corps members, who raised the alarm over incessant deaths of their colleagues in the state.
His remains were later deposited at the mortuary of the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa.
On Friday, corps members cried uncontrollably when the kinsmen of the deceased came to convey Opeyemi’s remains to Ekiti, his home state for burial. Hundreds of corps members went in large number to the mortuary.
Officials of the NYSC in the state were led by the NYSC state Coordinator, Mr. Anthony Ekeocha.
Ekeocha reportedly described the death as painful and decried incessant deaths of corps members in Bayelsa.
He said, “We are here to carry out an assignment and it is a painful assignment.
“We all pray that we should not die prematurely but at an old age. I put myself in the shoes of the parents after much investment but at the end this is what they got”.
MAN ARRESTED FOR POSSESSING HUMAN SKULL, BONE .
A 28-year-old man identified as Oluebube Nwachukwu is currently in police net for an unlawful possession of human skull and bone suspected to be that of a murder victim.
Nwachukwu, who hails from Amagwo-Eluelu, was arrested by police operatives following complaints from locals about his nefarious activities in the village.
The Commissioner of Police in Abia State, Mr. Adeleye Oyebade, who paraded the suspects at the command headquarters in Umuahia, said the suspect could not give a good account of how he got the human bone and skull.
Oyebade added that investigations were ongoing to unravel the mystery behind the items in the suspect’s possession.
He said, “The synergy we enjoy with the members of the public is already paying off. Our officers acted on a tip-off as a result of complaints from indigenes of Olokoro concerning the suspect’s unstable behaviour and we were able to make this startling discovery.
“We urged all peace-loving Abians to always report any suspected movement in their localities to the police and on time too so that we can respond on time and arrest the situation.”
When asked how he got the human skull and bone, Nwachukwu said he inherited them from his late uncle identified only as Ogbonna after his death in the 2012.
He said, “I am an unskilled builder and a native doctor. Our people reported me to the police out of envy. Most of them are not happy with my success as a native doctor.
“My late uncle was a known native doctor in Abia State and I decided to take over from him after his death. I have not heard that a native doctor was arrested anywhere before because there is freedom of worship in Nigeria.”

At least one Chelsea fan could smile after the defeat.
Chelsea Legend Didier Drogba Throw Jabs At Theo Walcott For Making Fun Of Trashing Chelsea On Twitter.
Reaction from Didier Drogba
He may be on the other side of the world in Canada with the Montreal Impact, but Didier Drogba is always connected to Chelsea.
The Ivorian legend was well aware of the result at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, as Arsenal beat the Pensioners 3-0 on home soil.
The Gunners wrapped up the win in the first half with goals from Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott and Mesut Ozil,
After the game, Walcott turned to social media to post his post game reaction.
Several hours later, Drogba responded directly to Walcott’s post, with the following message:
Congrats on your win bro @theowalcott but it is easy for the mouses to dance when the cats aren’t there.
A rough day for Drogba
It was actually a tough Saturday for Drogba.
Aside from seeing his beloved Blues lose at Arsenal, the Montreal Impact lost 1-0 away at the New York Red Bulls.

I KILLED HER AND HAD $EX WITH HER BODY – BOY WHO KILLED 7-YEAR-OLD GIRL CONFESS
A 22-year-old man yesterday confessed to the Accra Central District Magistrate Court, Ghana, to killing a seven-year-old girl after which he had $ex with the corpse. Lucas Agboyie, alias “Sympathy”, told the court that he strangled his victim after she had refused his advances and even begged him not to have $ex with her.
“I then took her to my room and slept with the body
repeatedly,’’ Lucas said, to the shock of the audience in the packed courtroom.
Confession
Agboyie, who wore a blue T-shirt over a pair of blue jeans and was clean shaven and energetic looking, threw his arms wildly about as he described events that led to the little girl’s death.
According to him, on the day of the incident, he had
smoked marijuana, right after which he saw the girl passing by his house.
“It was a Sunday morning and after taking ‘ganja’, I saw
the girl passing. I called her and sent her to go and bring me my towel that had been hanged behind my house. On her return, I told her that I wanted to sleep with her but she refused.
“I held her hand and she began struggling with me. She
begged and told me to let her go and started screaming.
So I strangled her. “I then took her to my room and slept with the body. Afterwards, I took the GH¢20 she had in her possession and used it to buy ‘ganja’,” he said.
The victim’s mother, who was in court, could not hold back her tears as Agboyie made the confession. She had to be. consoled by her family members who had accompanied her to the court.
As the confession was unfolding, others could be seen
shaking their heads and shedding tears.

MAKE UNA LEAVE PATIENCE JONATHAN ALONE… A VERY INTERESTING ARTICLE BY CHARLY BOY
The latest unconfirmed gist heating up the social media is about former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, who is spitting fire on EFCC for freezing her accounts containing about 6.3 billion Naira, claiming that she is being deprived of her right to her hard-earned money. Yes o, however you wan look am, she worked for that money!
Why are people suddenly upset? Isn’t it the same Naija people who have been shouting, “bring back our corruption”, since the country slipped into recession? Dia ris God ooooo!!!
Since 1978 or so, we have been living on corruption money, and hailing the thieves. Haba Naija, I tire for una. Abegi make we hear word and make we read something useful on this social highway. Una dey provoke say dem see billions for Mama Peace account.
And so?
When will we ever learn? Yes, a country deserves the kind of leadership it gets because those who rule us are from amongst us, they are not from Ghana or Togo. How many times will we let a thief into our house? The first time should be enough. The second time, lets take that as one chance. The third time means we are stupid. If we, the followers are not like our leaders, why haven’t we done anything to stop the looting of our resources??
Countries that don’t have brave youths, prosecutors, fearless judges, good policing and fearless citizens will instead, have plenty of thieves, many killers and even stupid leaders. Since we have settled for people deceiving people and it has become our way of life let’s roll over and die or accept everything we see that assaults our intelligence and impoverish us.
Wetin???
For if you suffer your people to be ill-educated, and their manners to be corrupted from their infancy, and then punish them for those crimes to which their first education disposed them, what else is to be concluded from this, but that you first make thieves and then punish them?
We have been living on corruption money long before now and we didn’t care.
I know that looters will be looted, while time and tide will make most of us mercenaries . For long, our leaders have used deception and misdirection as their tools. We don’t believe in hard work, when a false face and a good line of bullshit can do so much more.
As for us the masses, we are all waiting for our turn to steal something from some place, Kai, our mumu is vexing me joor.
So how can we effectively create this new dawn when most of us are all guilty.
Now Baba has come to fight corruption, but I can swear that he is alone in this fight. Because most of the people in his kitchen are corrupt. Yes o.
Till there are grave consequences for people who break the law, people who steal public funds, known corrupt people who are till today in leadership positions, nothing will change. This too will come to pass and nothing go happen. Dem go settle, and back to business as usual.
Has anyone one been thrown into prison since this war on corruption started? My people, abegi, make we use our brain.
I just pray that one day one day, there will be no hiding place for people who ruined this country.
For those who took what they didn’t earn, may judgement await them! It is only from then that things will begin to truly change.
The injustices stink…tufiakwa!!!
I don talk my own sha.

Nottingham Forest vs Arsenal 0-4
Xhaka scored another cracker from 30yards and Perez opened his account with us tonight with an excellent goal in the 71st minute.
Even though he scored at the end I found watching the Ox frustrating at times.
Let's have your man of the match.
